One of my goals is to visit all of the US National Parks. I was super excited as I headed to Badlands National Park. The day was gorgeous, the weather perfect. As soon as I entered the park, this was the view. You can't really appreciate the size of this place or the amazing mountains with this picture. It's a beautiful, but inhospitable place, thus the name Badlands. At that time, everything was lovely. Some 20 minutes later, the panorama was very different.
A storm began to pound, so strongly I couldn't even see the road in front of me. The car wipers couldn't go fast enough, so I had to park for a long time. I took a nap inside my car while the storm passed. After it passed, the sky looked like this:
I couldn't help thinking how reflective this was of my life. All was going well, the view was looking positive, but all of a sudden, everything turned into storms and badlands. I can't see the way, the rain doesn't stop, and all is grey. I want to continue, to keep driving along my path, but maybe it's time to park the car. I sense it's time to stop and rest in my Lord's care, trusting that he is in control over the storms, and that he can transform my badlands into fruitful lands once more.
"Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools". Psalm 84:5-6
