June 2017, Washington
I woke up very early to drive along the west coast of the United States. I wanted to visit Rialto beach before driving to the mountains on my last days in Washington. Seeing the ocean is always very refreshing for my Caribbean soul and I was longing for the stillness of sitting in front of the beach, listening to the waves and smelling the ocean. To my surprise, although the day was very clear, I could barely see the ocean because of the fog and mist. Plus, it was super cold. I couldn't stay too long, but I decided to walk a bit in case I saw a whale miraculously.
When I got out of the car and turned around, this was the stunning view I saw. The light peeking in through the trees created a sensation of a world of fantasy. This photo is not edited in any way, and I still think it doesn't capture the awesomeness of those minutes. How amazing is our Creator! I wonder how many scenes like this one we miss out on daily. As an artist, I am sure God must find pleasure in creating moments like these. I felt privileged to be able to witness this one.

From there I continued to Hoh Rainforest. I got a flat tire that day, but a good Samaritan helped me change it. The forest was amazing, but I was still thinking about whales. I walked around the forest for about two hours and then continued my journey.

As I continued along the coast, still covered with dense fog, I kept looking out my window in case I could see something from the car. I had prayed for a whale and the last stretch of road along the coast was almost over, I gave up on the idea of seeing any whales.
Then I saw a campground right by the beach and I decided to pull in for one last look at the ocean.
AS SOON as I parked and looked at the water, I saw movement. Whale!!! I jumped out of the car and ran to the shore. I saw the whale pop its head out two more times and then it disappeared. I couldn't take a good picture, but I saw it as a special gift from God. He knows how much I love whales and he sent this one to make me smile. What a great detail, that in an ocean so huge, on a day so grey, an animal as big as this one, which could have been in deeper waters, aligned with God's will and timing so that everything coincided with the moment I pulled up into the parking space and looked at the ocean. From there I headed to Mount Rainier, but that's a topic for another day....
